High tension on the Korean Peninsula, where North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un (40) recently portrayed himself as a tank driver during a military exercise. North Korean propaganda media reported that the dictator led a tank training to check the combat readiness of the participating troops. In doing so, he called for intensive exercises that should "simulate a current war".

Kim tested battle tanks, rocket launchers, and hypersonic weapons. After inspecting the tank crews, he allegedly took the wheel of a newly developed battle tank and drove it, while the soldiers cheered. This tank exercise is interpreted in South Korea as a demonstration of military strength. In recent weeks, Kim supervised several maneuvers in which newly equipped, particularly large multiple rocket launchers were tested. It is claimed that these weapons could be equipped with tactical nuclear warheads. North Korea also announced that it has made progress in the development of hypersonic missiles. A test of a solid-propellant jet engine for a new medium-range hypersonic missile was successful. Such weapons are particularly difficult to intercept as they can reach more than five times the speed of sound and are maneuverable.
