Hodges shows no understanding for demands for a ceasefire and negotiations with Putin. He emphasizes that Crimea is a crucial piece of land in this war, as Russia could block all Ukrainian ports as long as it occupies Crimea. Hodges also doubts that Putin would adhere to any peace agreement unless forced to do so. He points out that there is currently no guarantee that Russia would adhere to agreements.
