Weathers was also present in newer productions and played the role of "Greef Karga" in the Star Wars series "The Mandalorian".
Before transitioning to acting, Weathers played college football at San Diego State University, with drama as his major. Prior to that, he had a season in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders in 1970. "When I discovered football for myself, it was a completely different outlet," Weathers once told the "Detroit News": "It was more about the physicality, even though one fertilized the other. You needed a certain level of intelligence because you had to study playbooks and recordings to learn about the opponent each week." Outside of Hollywood, he was also involved in charitable causes. Carl Weathers was 76 years old and is survived by two sons.
