In Spain, for example, the Corona incidence increased by about 27 percent within a week, reports "Heute.at”. Compared to the beginning of May, the number has quadrupled, with the most infections in Madrid, Catalonia, and Andalusia. Almost 4,000 new positive cases were reported in Italy – three times as many as the week before. Experts there are already recommending the wearing of masks in public transport and at crowded tourist spots. In Greece, the numbers of Corona-infected people in hospitals have quadrupled, according to "Heute.at”. Matina Pagoni, Chairwoman of the Association of Hospital Doctors of Athens and Piraeus (EINAP), confirmed this to the private TV station "MEGA”.
Experts Advise Hygiene Measures
The number of Corona cases has also been rising in the USA for weeks. Recently, even US President Joe Biden (81) was infected. Although hospital admissions and deaths are lower compared to the peak values of previous years, they are also rising. In the USA, the new variant KP.3 dominates the infection scenario with a share of almost 40 percent. To prevent bringing a Corona infection back from vacation, experts recommend observing known hygiene measures and wearing a mask in crowded places as well as in airplanes or trains.
The good news: For people outside the risk groups, KP.3 does not pose a particular threat. As with the previous variants, an infection usually has a mild course.
