On November 14, Charles will turn 76, but the British king has no plans to retire. His schedule is busier than ever, and he is currently traveling with Camilla on the other side of the world. The royal couple has already spent six days in Australia with a tight program and arrived in Samoa on October 23. Here, Charles will attend the Commonwealth Summit on Friday, October 25, a conference for member states, which mainly includes former British colonies. At the start of his stay in Samoa, the King surprised with an unusual outfit: Instead of elegant suits or military uniforms, he and Camilla wore traditional white clothing on the first day of the trip to take part in a ceremony and meet Head of State Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II. Local media reported on this and highlighted that he had opted for an island-style safari shirt.
To honor the royals, a special "'ava ceremony" took place at the University of Samoa, an old ritual often held at the beginning of important gatherings. During the ceremony, "'ava" is drunk, made from the dried roots of the 'ava plant, and the participants come together in a spirit of harmony, as Charles and Camilla emphasized on social media. The Kava plant, from which 'ava is obtained, belongs to the pepper shrub family.
