Already during the election campaign, Trump had watered down his original promise and hinted that a possible deal between Moscow and Kiev could take weeks or months. But the original, ambitious goal of ending the conflict within a day was not achieved. It is noteworthy, however, that Trump expressed criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While signing initial decrees in the Oval Office, Trump said, "Zelensky is ready to sign an agreement, but I'm not sure Putin wants that too.”
Ukraine Ready for Ceasefire
The situation remains tense: While Ukraine signals its readiness for a ceasefire, Russia continues to impose conditions that are unacceptable. President Putin demands from Ukraine a de facto capitulation and the surrender of territories to the Kremlin regime - demands that are categorically rejected by the Ukrainian government under President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump also made it clear that he would not support these conditions. The path to a possible peace remains uncertain.
