Jimmy follows a transformative season in Stewart’s life: from winning the Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps and serving as a combat pilot at the start of World War II, and it also covers his role in It’s a Wonderful Life. The biopic opens in theaters on Nov. 6.
Apa leads a cast that includes Kara Killmer, Neal McDonough, Max Casella, Jason Alexander and others, with Stewart’s daughter Kelly Stewart-Harcourt listed as an executive producer. Apa, a father of one who recently voiced an Audible Original, called the experience rewarding, saying he was moved by Stewart’s Oscar win and later wartime service. Stewart’s honors include the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Kennedy Center Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom; he died in 1997 at age 89.
