In an excerpt from Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, Spencer recalls the procession on Sept. 6, 1997, after Diana’s death at 36. He says Prince Charles initially outlined positions for the chief mourners, but Prince Philip intervened, insisting Spencer, as Diana’s brother and head of her family, should march in the center flanked by Princes William and Harry, with Charles and Philip on the outer sides.
